Let's groove!
We'll show you 7 creative ways to get even more out of your practising, including practising routines and other creative ideas that are really fun.
With the Groove Cards, you have a really powerful tool for practising, learning and sticking with it.
1. Daily mini-sessions
Take 5-10 minutes every day and spontaneously draw 1-2 cards and play the grooves. This trains creativity, responsiveness and is great fun!
2. Stay in time!
Choose a groove and play it over a longer period of time without changing it. You can choose a fixed number of bars, classic divisions such as 4, 8 or 16 bars work particularly well.
Then grab one or more more groove cards and switch smoothly from one groove to the next - without a break! This will help you practise your transitions and develop a better sense of timing and flow.
A great addition: incorporate fills at the end of a bar pattern. For example, with a four-bar pattern: play the groove for three bars and add a fill in the fourth bar.
Experiment with this, it's really fun! This creates exciting combinations and allows you to practise transitions and flow.
3. Track progress
Note which cards you are good at and which you should repeat.
You can also make small notes directly on the back of the card. But only with a pencil, of course!
4. Use a timer
Set yourself a time limit per card - e.g. 1 minute. Try to play a certain number of Groove Cards, even if they are drawn at random. Stay focussed and try not to wander off or play other things.
5. Always with you - even without a drumset
The cards work great for practising or visualising on the go. Ideal for travelling, waiting times or quick sessions in between!
6. Experience more with QR codes
Scan the QR codes on the cards and watch how real drummers play the grooves in the video - to join in and play along!
You'll also find a matching Spotify playlist with songs that you can practise the grooves to. This makes the whole thing even more fun and gives you a better feel for the musical context.
7. Memorise with the index card effect
Use the natural ‘index card effect’ of your Groove Cards: just look at the front with the name and illustration and try to play the groove from memory - without looking at the notation on the back.
If you are unsure, you can of course look it up at any time - but try to memorise more bit by bit. This will not only train your musical memory, but also make you more confident in free playing.
Have fun practising and don't forget:
Drumming is a process. Small steps. Big effect.
